ABOUT XTERRA RACE:
It all began in 1996 when mountain biking and triathlon met in a duel of the strongest on Hawaii’s Maui Island. The race consisted of rough ocean swimming, mountain bike racing and running. It represented a new racing format that attracted both triathletes and mountain bikers. Mountain bikers brought their leisurely style and confidence. Triathletes brought their hard workouts and passionate dedication. They soon discovered the common spirit and attitude that brought them together. No matter how different they were, they couldn’t resist the challenges and excitement of this new multi-sport.
From a one-day race taking place on the farthest island chain in the world – in Hawaii, XTERRA has evolved into a durable, sporty lifestyle that is attractive around the world. Over the past 20 years or more, XTERRA has outgrown its “race” status and has become a true lifestyle for thousands of intrepid triathletes and runners worldwide.
